10 Outdoor Adventures You Can’t Miss in Boerne. Contact us for 10 more great ideas.
Whereas many students and families need to travel for miles to find a real outdoor adventure, Boerne citizens are lucky enough to have access to awesome options all year! Here are just a few of our favorite ways to enjoy that wild Hill Country landscape.
Because there’s no denying: all that wide-open space was made to be explored.
1. Hike the Cibolo Nature Center
Want to head outside in a classic Boerne setting? We recommend heading to the Cibolo Nature Center! Featuring over three miles of trails, 100 acres of gorgeous Hill Country land, and four distinct ecosystems, the CNC is a local gem that welcomes hikers, adventurers, and nature lovers of all ages. The Center (and on-site farm) is a community that passionately believes Boerne’s brightest future is one lived in harmony with nature.
2. Learn to Sail
Interested in learning a new aquatic skill? Try your hand at sailing! Head to Trisum Sailing on Boerne City Lake to find more information about sailing lessons, US sailing certification (small boat), Boy Scout sailing badges, corporate team building, and more. If you already know the ropes (literally), Trisum also offers boat rentals to experienced sailors who want to spend a day on the water.
3. Try the Don Strange Adventure Ranch Challenge Course
Looking for a true Hill Country adventure? The Don Strange Ranch Adventure Challenge Course is for you! The ranch’s rugged terrain is the backdrop for a full spectrum of novelty experiences and activities, from a zip line to a ropes course. While the adventure course is available for individual visits, groups can also book the ranch for events and parties. Get the crew together and enjoy a day of fishing, longhorn feeding, armadillo races, and way more.
4. Head Underground for Spelunking
When you think of the phrase “outdoor adventure,” you probably imagine being surrounded by the Hill Country landscape and big Texas sky. But what if we told you the most fascinating Hill Country adventure actually takes place underground? Spelunking invites you to explore the beautiful caverns and twisting caves beneath your feet. Two such caves (Cave Without a Name and Cascade Caverns) offers both standard and novelty tours ( i.e. “flashlight” and “adventure” tours).
5. Work Your Core with Stand Up Paddle Boarding
Unlocking its doors just in time for Spring Break, Hill Country Paddle Sports will re-open for the season on March 10th! This local rental location specializes in stand up paddleboards (SUP), a trend that’s surprisingly easy for beginners (and a killer core workout, too). If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, you can try SUP Yoga on Boerne Lake. Check their calendar for details!
6. Take a Trail Ride
Is there anything more traditionally Texan than riding a horse through the Hill Country? Satisfy your inner Cowboy or Cowgirl with a trip to Stricker Trail Rides, located just four miles west of IH-10 (near Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort). Join “Cowboy Willie Stricker” for an up-close tour of the beautiful local countryside. Individual and group rides are available Monday - Saturday!
7. Jump into the Bee Water Park
As a water park “serious about fun,” BEE Water Park is certainly not joking around when it comes to supplying a unique aqua-adventure. The inflatable water park is literally located on top of Boerne City Lake, offering water slides, trampolines, climbers, splash zones, and (our favorite) the infamous “blob.”
8. Toss the Frisbee
A rather quirky alternative to a classic game of golf, frisbee golf (or “frolf” if you’re down with the slang) is a fun way to spend the day outside! The nine-hole disc golf course at Boerne City Lake Park is open and ready for use. Both amateurs and aficionados are welcome. Use this Disc Golf Map and Scorecard to get started.
9. Go Fishing
Want to keep it simple? Head out to Boerne City Lake Park for a classic day of fishing! The park is equipped with a boat ramp, courtesy dock, and fishing pier, among other amenities.
10. Explore the Kreutzberg Canyon Natural Area
In the northeast stretches of Boerne, TX, the Kreutzberg Canyon Natural Area invites visitors to marvel at the Hill Country’s stunning natural beauty. With 117 scenic acres along the Guadalupe River and three miles of multiuse paths, hikers are invited to take full advantage of the beautiful scenery. Fishing, paddling, swimming, splashing, and relaxing are highly encouraged.
